The ASM Rochester Chapter has strived to provide the local technical community with relevant materials related presentations, tours, and education courses. Attendance has been our primary metric for success, and I'm proud to say we have hit some home runs. For example, this past year the Chapter participated in the first public tour of RE Ginna Nuclear Power Station since the implementation of increased security regulations. The event was well attended and very interesting. This would not have been possible without the support of an ASM member on site at the facility. Also, the Chapter has repeatedly held an introductory metallurgy course organized and taught by a Rochester Chapter member. The course was always well attended and received wonderful reviews from participants.
Despite these wins our membership levels have decreased over the past decade. Nonmembers have become the primary attendees at events, and we have been unable to maintain a sustainable leadership team to run the Chapter. Numerous attempts have been made to increase membership and recruit new leaders. Unfortunately, we have not been successful in reaching critical mass required to operate the Chapter.
For these reasons, the Rochester Chapter will no longer be actively managed. Our cash reserves will be turned over to ASM International in hopes that the Chapter will be revived in future years.
I would like to thank everyone for participating in past Chapter events. Whether a regular or occasional attendee, your participation made the Chapter successful for many years!
Best wishes to everyone.
Sincerely,
Jim Collins Chairman - Rochester Chapter ASM International
